Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

What Can Patch Do For You?

What sort of new features would you like to see from Patch?

When Patch began launching websites across the United States, many people—including myself—thought it was just going to be a high-tech, fast-moving, hyperlocal news platform.

It certainly has been all those things, but in time, it’s grown to become a lot more than that. Patch’s official mission statement—which you can find on any number of Patch glasses, mugs, calendars and coffee cups—says “Making life ridiculously easy for you and your neighbors.”

In the spirit of that mission, Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch has tried to provide interesting, but also informative, weekly features to help make life a little easier for the community.

Here’s a quick rundown of my current features here on Patch:

In addition to getting daily headlines sent to your inbox, hourly updates on Facebook/Twitter and a super-cool iPhone app, the question is…

What else would you like to see Patch do to make your life a little easier?

Do you want a roundup of local gas station prices? A recap of ugly potholes around town?

Submit your recommendations in the comments below.

I think it would be great to see a snapshot of exactly how our councilman is voting. With their party, against their party and a brief statement as to why.

Sean, that's interesting. Do you mean for national issues or county specific issues? Councilmen voting decisions for county issues are available when we cover the stories. So I was wondering if you mean national topics.

I think it would be great to see movie reviews on shows at our local theatres. My son would be perfect for providing that type of information! :)

Debbie, does your son want to start a movie blog for Patch? Where he can write reviews and post times?!?! That sounds awesome!

Yes, Jonathan, he would!! He is a Junior at SRHS and this opportunity would benefit both his career goals and educational studies. He is very passionate about movies -- and has wonderful samples of reviews on his Facebook, complete with snapshots. How do we start a movie blog for Patch?

Sounds great Debbie! Have your son email me at jonathan.moynihan@patch.com. He'll need to also set up an account with Patch, like you do now, and then once I know his user account info, I can set him up as a blogger. :)

Jonathan, Sean's idea of publishing the voting record of our representatives is great. Since all politics is local, to start at the country level, expanding to the state legislature (if you could find the results since they meet in secret too often for their owm good) would sent a message that they are watched and should respond to "We the People".
