South River Defeats Severna Park, Advances to Semis

The girls basketball team at South River defeated the Falcons, led by Tiffany McKinney's 20 points.

South River’s girls basketball team advanced to the MPSSAA Class 4A Regional Semifinals Monday night after they defeated Severna Park High 58-44.

Prior to the game, Seahawks head coach Mike Zivic said making the most of every possession was key to victory, and that’s exactly what his team did.

Both The Capital and the South River Source were at the game Monday night as South River’s Tiffany McKinney led the team with 20 points, helping the team get off to a quick 16-4 lead in the first quarter. McKinney told The Capital that the early lead was critical to the team’s victory.

The squad will now host Broadneck High Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the South River gymnasium. The Bruins are ranked as the No. 3 seed, only one spot behind South River.
