UPDATE: Route 2 Accident To Cause Major Delays

South county precinct dispatcher confirmed there was an entrapment at the scene of the accident.

UPDATE (5 p.m.)—Firefighters pulled a 60-year-old man from his car on southbound Maryland Route 2 after a car accident that closed the road Tuesday afternoon, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department Capt. James Rostek.

"Upon extrication, [the man] was in cardiac arrest," Rostek said.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to a call of a motor vehicle accident on Route 2 near Lee Airport at approximately 2:51 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the man trapped in his car from the accident.

The accident was still causing problems for afternoon commuters, according to one dispatcher at the Anne Arundel County Police Department's south county precinct.

"Traffic could be backed up for a couple of hours. The accident looks serious," another precinct dispatcher said.

The number and type of cars involved in the accident were not immediately available, Rostek said.

How did the dispatchers release any information to you? They are not allowed to release information, that has to go through the PIO. Just sayin.

I have a good relationship with both the PIO and officers of the south county precinct. Traffic information and basic accident information are available to the public through the communications department at the precinct.

Traffic was a gridlock everywhere until around 6:30. It was jammed up even out to Route 50 and 424, Governors Bridge Road, and other arteries. I have never seen it this bad before.

Delays don't begin to describe this - it took me 1.25 hours to get from AAMC to Woodland Beach and I tried every trick in the book. I'm still not understanding why it was this bad... I understand this was a fatality - my prayers go out nonetheless to all who were involved. AACP need to do a lot better job enforcing speed limits in this area - I see serious red light runnings and insane speed around here EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Apparently this guy (who ran the red light) has a history of running stop signs, driving on a suspended license, failing to stay right of center, and multiple other charges in Calvert County. Sounds like they just need to take his keys and lock him up!

My husband was hit by someone running the red light at the Annapolis Harbor Center a few years ago. He was mid-intersection when this kid was cruising up Rte 2 north, ran the red light and totaled our Suburban with his little Dodge Dakota. Luckily, my husband (and the neglectful driver) lived. This kind of accident seems to happen a lot around here. I support more red light cameras, especially at big intersections because of this.
