School System Could Seek Graduation Site in County
The president of the school board asked for the formation of a committee to seek a site for graduations. Currently, many ceremonies are held in Baltimore and Prince George's counties.
The president of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education said he'd like to find a place in the county to hold high school graduations.
Andrew Pruski requested the formation of a committee to determine how to hold more graduation ceremonies in Anne Arundel County each May. Currently, many graduation ceremonies are held outside of Anne Arundel County, at sites including the campus of UMBC and Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro.
“Anytime we can keep tax dollars, and keep people traveling in Anne Arundel, we should do that,” Pruski said. “It’s not a decision or a move, but a look to the future."
Pruski said that Sen. Ed Degrange (D-Glen Burnie) has indicated support for a county graduation site.
Board member Salon Webb asked that the ad hoc budget committee examine the issue.

Long overdue, in my opinion. I've been advocating for this for many years via the Severna Park High School CAC, but surprisingly had very little support.

They need to work with AACC and share their tent and accomodations. It was a wonderful place for the college graduation last year, and using tax money for that big tent for the public schools as well as for the college graduation makes sense. And yes, our money needs to stay in the county.

That's what we do in Carroll County for 7 high schools. Everyone graduates at McDaniel College because the older and smaller schools don't have auditoriums large enough to hold everyone. Anne Arundel County should be able to find a great spot.

There's a sand mine pit within half a mile of the privately-funded school that the AA County School board just approved. Maybe they can build a 'graduation facility' there. It's adjacent to GORC park too!

Totally agree. Was extremely disappointed to have to leave county to attend my son's graduation last year. Can't believe we don't have locations to accommodate graduations in anne arundel county.

Seems like a no-brainer to me, and long overdue.
