Police: Edgewater Man Killed by Falling Tree During Storm
Reports say Kevin O'Brien, 25, of Edgewater died at the scene after a large tree fell on the vehicle he was driving Friday night.
An Edgewater man died late Friday night after a large tree fell on the vehicle he was driving. High winds and heavy rains were reported in the area at the time of the incident just before midnight.
Anne Arundel County Police said Kevin Alan O'Brien, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene.
O'Brien was reportedly driving a Ford Escape eastbound on Harwood Road, west of Richardson Road, when a large tree fell on the roadway. The tree landed on the front of the vehicle and trapped the three occupants, one of whom was able to exit on his own, according to a press release from police.
Anne Arundel County Fire Department and medic units responded to the scene. The two passengers, both from Davidsonville, were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis for minor injuries.
Severe weather Friday night brought down trees and power lines across Anne Arundel County. The police said, there did not appear to be any driver or vehicle factors that contributed to this incident at this time.
The accident is under investigation by the Traffic Safety Section.

This is heartbreaking, a devastating loss. This demonstrates how fragile life is. A friend, family member, co-worker can be here one day and gone the next. Prayers will continue for the family and friends of all touched by Kevin. Prayers will also continue for those who survived the accident as they mourn a dear friend. Thinking about the many wonderful memories will help each of us during this very difficult time in Edgewater.
