It took more than eight months for the local gem and its owner Mike Sellinger to reopen and the beloved restaurant is saying “thank you” to the community in a fun way.
For the first time ever, the Old Stein Inn plans to host a “Battle of the Brats” event May 20.
“As the Old Stein Inn has risen like a ‘phoenix from the ashes,’ we want to give back to the community that supported us in our time of need,” according to special flier from the restaurant.
The event will feature food, music, beer and a bratwurst-eating competition. In it, 12 contestants will compete to eat 40 Nürnberger’s mini bratwursts. Each contestant will receive a special event T-shirt and the winner gets a “Wurstanator” crown upon victory, according to the flier.
However, there is one catch for those wishing to compete. Each contestant must apply for the competition by submitting information and a short paragraph explaining why he or she should compete. Lastly, each contestant must raise a $250 entry fee, all of which goes to South River Youth Athletics.
In addition to winning the contest, special prizes will go to the person who raises the most money.
The Old Stein Inn’s flier said they’ll select the 12 contestants on April 28 so time is almost up.
Will you compete in the “Battle of the Brats” competition?
