LIVE: Seahawks Face Westminster in 4A/3A Boys Lacrosse Championship
South River leads Westminster 10-8, but a weather delay with only 2:33 left in the game has postponed play since 6:14 p.m.
8:06 p.m.—It's over. South River wins the Class 4A/3A Maryland State Lacrosse Championship!
8:03 p.m.—The game is back on. Two minutes to glory...
8:02 p.m.—As if you needed a reminder, South River leads the game 10-8 with 2:33 left in the state championship. After falling 7-0 to start, the Seahawks are now just minutes away from their second state title in four years.
7:55 p.m.—Fans are telling me there will be a 10-minute warm-up time prior to continuing the game.
7:45 p.m.—@CarrollVarsity just reported on Twitter that officials are letting fans back into UMBC Stadium. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we can get this game in.
7:22 p.m.—Sources at the game are telling me the weather is U-G-L-Y. Let's hope they can finish this thing tonight.
6:42 p.m.—The game could resume around 7 p.m. pending any more lightning sightings or heavy rain.
6:14 p.m.—With about two minutes left in the game, officials pause action for a thunder/lightning/rain delay. Players and fans clear the field. The delay is 30 minutes long from the last "lightning sighting."
6:07 p.m.—South River are just five minutes away from claiming the Class 4A/3A Lacrosse State Championship after an improbable comeback from being down 7-0 early on. A win would be amazing.
6:03 p.m.—All American Ben Chisolm scores his second goal of the day to give the Seahawks a two-goal lead. South River ahead 10-8 with less than seven minutes left.
5:55 p.m.—South River's goalie, Nick Marcelino is playing a heck of a game. South River still leads 9-8 after going down 7-0 in the first quarter. Only one quarter left to play.
5:51 p.m.—South River earns an "extra man offense" after a hard foul by Westminster just before the end of the third quarter.
5:47 p.m.—Westminster quickly ends its drought with a goal. All tied up 8-8 in the state championship.
5:45 p.m.—What a turn of events. South River scores two quick goals to take the lead. 8-7 South River!
5:43 p.m.—Paul Noone told Patch the key to victory would be solid defense. Ever since the first quarter ended, the Seahawks have shut out the Owls.
5:40 p.m.—The comeback is almost complete. South River just scored its sixth unanswered goal. Seahawks trail 7-6 against Westminster with 6:47 left in the third quarter.
5:34 p.m.—We're back with the second half of action and South River are continuing their hot streak. They scored number 5 with 11:12 left in the third quarter. Seahawks trail 7-5.
5:23 p.m.—And that's the end of the first half. South River responds to an awful first quarter with four quick goals—going into the half down 7-4. This second half is going to be intense.
5:15 p.m.—South River scores its fourth goal in three minutes! Only down 7-4 with 1:36 to go in the half.
5:12 p.m.—Seahawks score again! They're only down 7-3 now with 2:10 left in the half.
5:10 p.m.—South River scores twice! They're finally on the board, but still down 7-2 with about two minutes left in the half.
5:08 p.m.—With just more than five minutes left in the half, South River is down 7-0. The Seahawks have only recorded four shots on goal throughout the game so far.
5:03 p.m.—The Owls can do no wrong. They just scored goal number 7 with 8:20 left in the first half.
5:00 p.m.—This isn't looking good. Westminster scores its sixth unanswered goal. Owls up 6-0.
4:53 p.m.—And that's the end of the first quarter! Westminster leads 5-0. The Seahawks will look to turn things around as soon as possible. Defense has been the team's biggest strength, but obviously the Owls have had some answers.
4:48 p.m.—Westminster is dominating the Seahawks right now. The Owls have scored goal number five against South River with 4:14 left in the first quarter.
4:46 p.m.—South River concedes another goal. Westminster lead 4-0 with six minutes left in the opening quarter.
4:40 p.m.—Before the game has much time to develop, Westminster takes an early 3-0 lead with about 10 minutes left in the first quarter. South River has an uphill battle ahead of them.
The South River boys lacrosse team takes on Westminster High around 4 p.m. Wednesday for the Maryland Public Schools Secondary Athletic Association 4A/3A Maryland Lacrosse Championship.
