Get Out! Weekend Planner: Sept. 8-15

What do a yard sale, a hero's run and a tomato festival have in common? They're all part of an action-packed weekend in the Edgewater-Davidsonville area.

 

Adaptive Lacrosse

  • Where/When:  Davidsonville Park, 3042 Patuxent River Road, Davidsonville / 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday
  • What:  Davidsonville Athletic Association (DAA) is pleased to announce that registration for the 2011 season of ADLax is underway.  ADLax is an adaptive lacrosse program for area youth and adults (ages 6 & up) with disabilities.  Rules and equipment are modified to meet the needs of individual athletes and all equipment is provided.  Games will be scheduled further into the season.  For more information and to register (athletes and volunteers), visit www.daagators.org, or email adaptivelax@gmail.com with any questions.  Hope to see you on the field! 
  • Price:  Free admission

Community Yard Sale

  • Where/When:  3400 Kings Retreat Court, Davidsonville / 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
  • What:  Baby and kids items, antiques, housewares and furniture for sale.  Kings Retreat is located directly off Route 424 between Route 214 and Governor's Bridge Road.  Look for the balloons!  Rain or shine.
  • Price:  Free admission

CANCELED-2nd Annual Preparedness Fair-CANCELED

  • Where/When: Police have announced that this event has been canceled due to saturated grounds at the event location. 
  • What:  The Office of Emergency Management will host the 2nd Annual Preparedness Fair.  View Police and Fire department personnel and equipment, vehicles and more.  Local agencies and non-profits will provide information to the public on preparing your home, family or business for an emergency or disaster.  Learn how to make an emergency kit.  Free parking is available in the county garage.  Food and beverages are available for sale.  Bring the family!
  • Price:  Free admission

Homestead Gardens 3rd Annual Annapolis Tomato Festival

  • Where/When:  Homestead Gardens, 743 Central Avenue, W., Davidsonville / 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday
  • What:  Taste a great array of tomato samples and don't miss the fun competitions slated for this event.  The 2nd Annual Chesapeake Chili Cook-Off will take place from 12:30 to 2 p.m., the Salsa Competition is from 2 to 4 p.m., the 2nd Annual Ledo's Fastest Pizza Eating Contest is at 3 p.m. and live music can be enjoyed throughout the day.
  • Price:  Individuals are $10 each, Family of 4 is $25 (children under 10 are free)

9/11 Heroes Run

  • Where:  Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, 550 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis / 4 p.m. Sunday
  • What:  This charity event supports the Travis Manion Foundation honoring all heroes around the world.  The 2011 9/11 Run has a goal to never forget the sacrifices made by all heroes who emerged on September 11th whether veteran, first responder or civilian.
  • Price: $25 per person
