Funeral Home Finalizes Details for Feeks' Memorial Tribute

Residents are encouraged to line Route 2 at 10 a.m. Monday to honor Edgewater Navy SEAL Patrick Feeks, as his body is escorted in to town.

After gaining approval from the Feeks family, the George. P. Kalas Funeral Home is moving forward with its special memorial tribute plan to honor Edgewater’s fallen Navy SEAL Patrick Feeks at 10 a.m. Monday.

At about 10 a.m. Monday, residents are encouraged to line Solomons Island Road in Edgewater with flags “as their fallen hero comes home,” according to one funeral home employee.

Feeks, a 28-year-old Navy SEAL, was killed Aug. 16 with seven other Americans and four Afghans when his helicopter crashed while fighting insurgents in Afghanistan.

Hundreds are expected to attend Feeks’ viewing from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, but the funeral home’s staff members also are rallying the community to host a “welcome home tribute” for the “fallen hero,” said Don Rakoskie, who works at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home.

“We have received confirmation that Feeks’ body will depart Dover Air Force Base at 8 a.m. Monday and arrive at our funeral home at approximately 10 a.m.,” Rakoskie said. “We understand the hearse will be escorted from Dover by the Patriot Guard. They will exit Route 50 at Route 2 and proceed south to the funeral home.”

Since Tuesday, funeral home staff members and community residents have been working to stage the special tribute for Feeks. Many officers and schools will be closed for Labor Day, so Rakoskie and his co-workers are encouraging neighbors throughout the area to honor the fallen Navy SEAL.

“We hope and encourage our neighbors throughout the area to recognize Feeks’ patriotic service to our country by lining Route 2 to pay their respects to one of our nation’s and community’s fallen heroes,” Rakoskie told Patch.

The funeral home is working with county police and is asking people to park in safe areas and avoid clogging Solomons Island Road as much as possible.

Anyone interested in attending the event should contact the funeral home at 410-956-4488.

Anybody know more about this? I would seem that we would need to be near Kalas because they will cross bridge and go right in to Kalas, right?

The procession will travel Route 2 so anywhere along there from 665 to the funeral home will be great. You can also park across from the funeral home at the old police station and stand there.

Sending a heartfelt Thank You to such an amazing American!!! You are the definition of honor, courage, strength, and country. I also know that you have a caring soul. You cared enough about a some dogs over there to get them safely over to America to have great homes. And when all the guys wanted the puppies, You wanted to give the adult Mother dog a good loving home...that says volumes about the man our country lost, and the man your family lost. From one active duty family to another, we are so grateful to for your service and sacrifice for all of us. You are the heroes my three young boys will be bought about in this household. God speed...
