Edgewater's Newest Cupcake Shop Thrives on Flavor, Faith

LilyRose Cakes, Cupcakes & Confections opened its doors to the public on Friday, featuring exotic flavors and a family-like atmosphere.

What do you get when you take a lawyer, an IT consultant and a "super mom," and put them all together?

Apparently, you get Edgewater's newest cupcake businesses—LilyRose Cakes, Cupcakes & Confections.

Owned and operated by Carmen Adams and Sandie Torres, the two women opened up their shop at 8 Mayo Rd. on Friday while partnering with Andrea Galdi, a business owner who makes scones alongside LilyRose's cupcakes.

Together, the three ladies hope to become one of the hottest shops in town, offering unique recipes for cakes, cupcakes, scones and more.

Adams, a former lawyer, and Torres, a former IT consultant, spend most of their time working on cupcakes while Galdi focuses on her scones. Open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, the trio said their new shop is a dream come true for each of them.

"We've loved baking since we were little girls, each of us," Adams said.

Each with their own unique ethnic heritage, Adams, Torres and Galdi said the core of their business practice comes down to diversity, warmth, faith and a love for all things tasty. Torres hails from Puerto Rico, while Adams grew up in Cleveland but now lives in Annapolis. Galdi currently resides in the Millersville/Severna Park area, she said.

To encourage residents to check out "LilyRose," the new business plans to host a special holiday open house on Dec. 15, featuring freshly-made treats and some live music.

Additionally, the trio said they plan on using Facebook to help local customers actually name some of their confectionery concoctions.

Last week, LilyRose released a special chocolate cupcake that contained Cayenne pepper. They called it, "caliente."

Moving forward, Adams said the shop's unique flavor and welcoming feel will help it become a staple throughout the business community.

"We play with very unique flavors. Curry, Cayenne, saffron, we definitely play with unique, exotic flavors," Adams said. "We've got cupcakes, scones, French macaroons, homemade marshmallows and decorated cakes."

Have you checked out LilyRose yet? What did you think?
