Bowie Baysox Host Summer Reading Night
Participants in the Anne Arundel County libraries Summer Reading Program will head to the Bowie Baysox game on Sunday.
Kids participating in the Anne Arundel County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program will head to the Bowie Baysox game on Sunday for a parade, giveaways, fireworks and Captain Underpants.
The annual event gives kids who participate in the library’s program recognition for reading in the summer. Adding to this year’s festivities will be Captain Underpants himself.
The first 1,000 kids aged 3 to 14 to arrive at Sunday’s game will receive a copy of the widely-popular children’s book, Captain Underpants. They will also get the chance to meet the character at the game.
Every kid who has signed up for the Summer Reading Program can get a free ticket to the game. The tickets can be picked up at each Anne Arundel County library branch. Up until 5 p.m. on Friday, parents can get a discounted ticket by calling the box office, or ordering their ticket online using the promotion code SUMMER.
“The Baysox have been very generous to partner with us to reward the kids for continuing to read over the summer,” said library spokeswoman Laurie Hayes. “So they provide us with enough tickets for the kids for free.”
Kids who attend the game will receive prizes, and also get the chance to participate in a parade on the field before the game. The kids will be joined by Baysox mascot Louie and library mascot Sneaks. Hayes said they typically have a few hundred kids attend the event.
“The kids are pretty jazzed they get to run out on the field before the game and get a prize,” Hayes said. “We have been working with the Baysox for about 10 years now and it has been great partnership with us to recognize the kids.”
Those who stay until the end of Sunday night’s game against the Binghamton Mets will also get to see fireworks.
If you child is interested in participating in the parade, Hayes said they should line up by the carousel at 5 p.m. The parade will begin around 5:15 p.m.
The first pitch for Sunday’s game is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
