In one the iconic scenes from “A Christmas Story,” the Parker family is forced to have an alternative Christmas dinner after the neighbor’s dogs storm into their kitchen and eat the turkey.

I laugh every time I see the family dining at Chop Suey Palace, but the possibility of ruining Christmas dinner is something everyone must face.

Just in case something tragic happens in your effort to prepare the ultimate feast, here’s a helpful registry of local eateries that will be open on Christmas day.

Edgewater

The Nova sushi bar in Kmart shopping plaza is one of the best places to go for sushi and Asian cuisine and will be open in Edgewater on Christmas Day. The supermarkets will close in the early evening on Sunday. Also open are the Hong Kong Buffet on Route 2 and Dragon House Chinese on Mayo Road. Dragon House will also be running delivery on Sunday night. 

Annapolis

Rams Head Roadhouse will be open Christmas Day at 6 p.m. and remain open until 2 a.m. Dec. 26. The kitchen will be open to help you out whether you want to step away from the festivities at home for a drink and a quick bite or you're looking to escape the kitchen altogether.

Crofton

If you're looking for a cup of coffee to go with your Christmas celebration and treats you may want to check out the Caribou Coffee in the Village at Waugh Chapel. They serve light sandwiches and countless cups of seasonal flavored and themes coffee and tea.

Bowie

High end regional Asian fusion food may be all the recent rage, but Grace’s Fortune has been dishing out that type of cuisine since it opened in 1990. Owner Grace Tang went the extra step of creating a serene atmosphere of elegance with décor that includes an ornamental pond stocked with fish. The menu includes regional Chinese cuisine from Hong Kong, Canton, Shanghai, Szechwan, Hunan and Mongolia. Not an inexpensive Chinese restaurant, but one we recommend for a complete dinner experience. Open Christmas normal Sunday hours: 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Severna Park

Just visualize the scene from “A Christmas Story” and this is the place! It’s the No.1 Chinese Restaurant in the Robinson Crossing shopping center and it’s open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a full menu and carryout.

Odenton

The legendary Grace Garden restaurant will not be open on Christmas Day, but only because it's not usually open on Sundays. But there are a few other restaurants operating as normal, including the Hunan L'Rose in the Odenton Shopping Center. The restaurant is well known for its dumplings, orange chicken and other Americanized Chinese dishes. It's open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Christmas.

Glen Burnie

Open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., satisfy your pancake craving by stopping by the IHOP in Glen Burnie. Use the trip to try the restaurant's seasonal holiday hotcakes: White Chocolate Mint Chip Pancakes, Pumpkin Praline Pancakes, Eggnog Pancakes or the healthier SIMPLE & FIT Pumpkin Pancake combo.
