4 Seahawk Teams Soar Into State Playoffs
The next 72 hours will be decisive for South River's volleyball, field hockey, football and girls soccer squads.
After a thrilling come-from-behind victory by its football team, and an even more dramatic extra-time penalty goal for its girls soccer team, South River High is soaring into the state playoff picture.
With Seahawks’ field hockey, girls soccer, football and volleyball teams each competing in the coming days, it’s a great time to be a South River student.
South River’s girls soccer team won the regional championship on election night, defeating Arundel High 3-2. But as many students have already Tweeted, there’s a lot more action to come.
Starting with field hockey at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Richard Montgomery High, the Seahawks will look to continue their playoff push against Blake High. South River has so far won the Anne Arundel County championship and regional title.
An hour later South River volleyball takes on Severna Park High’s one-loss team at the home of the Falcons. Forty-eight hours after that at 7 p.m. on Friday, the football team hosts a rematch of last week’s epic showdown against the Patriots.
Last Friday, South River quarterback Connor Cox scored the game-winning 2-point conversion to earn a playoff spot and defeat the Patriots in Edgewater. In what could be another nail-biting affair on Friday night, the Seahawks will need to conquer Old Mill’s suppressing defense and powerful run attack if they hope to continue into the playoffs.
A day later, the girls soccer team—riding high off their epic 3-2 win over Arundel on Election Day—will take on Bowie at Franklin High School.
Can the magic continue for each of the Seahawk squads? One thing is for sure, local students will sure have a lot to Tweet about the next few days.

Hi Michele, it's a little confusing, but South River is actually playing Bowie High, but their playing AT Richard Montgomery High.
South River's Athletic Director Dave Klingel explained it to me and showed me the Seahawks are playing Bowie.
