Edgewater Student Excels in National Math Competition

Edgewater resident Jamie Treatman-Clark and Arnold resident Mackenzie Schultheis scored high in the Noetic Learning Math Contest this November.

Mackenzie and Jamie, both homeschooled students competing as part of the Mid-Maryland Extracurricular Club, tied for the highest score in the state of Maryland in the grade 3 division. Mackenzie and Jamie were also two of eight Maryland students to be awarded a National Honor Roll medal for scoring in the top ten percent of students nationally.

The Noetic Learning Math Contest is a national elementary math problem solving contest held twice a year. The purpose of the contest is to stimulate young students’
interest in math and to inspire them to excel in math.  11,989 young students representing 621 teams across the country participated in the November 2012 contest.
